Youth Competition

Information for parents

Playing Level

Children are divided into different categories based on age and then we try as a club to place children of the same category together in a team. There are 6 categories: Silver (U11), Gold (U13) and D, C, B, A (U19 + playing level).

Further explanation about the national youth competition can be found here (dutch).

Up to and including category Gold, we stick to the age as much as possible. From category D we look at playing level but we do try to keep teams together as much as possible. We have the possibility to appoint one dispensation player per team. This is a player who is officially too old for the team in question, but is still allowed to participate in that team. We try to avoid this as much as possible, but it is possible that your child plays at a lower level than his/her age would allow. Conversely, it is also possible that your child is placed at a higher level than he/she should. This can happen if, for example, there are too few players of a certain age to form a team (at least 3 players required)

At the beginning of each year, the teams must be submitted to the Association. Around the time of the General Meeting, the board will make an request for children who would like to play in the competition. BC Nuenen does not set any requirements for participation: enthusiasm is all we ask!

Badminton Nederland uses Toernooi.nl to register the match days and results. Once the teams have been assigned, they will also be recorded on Toernooi.nl. From that moment on, everyone can see which team they have been assigned to, and on which days the matches will take place. Keep a close eye on this because a date may be changed!

Communication

We ask that one parent per team registers as the contact person for that team. From the board, the youth coordinator is responsible for communication with the Association and with opponents. He/she will then maintain contact with the contact person per team via WhatsApp. If matches need to be moved, the youth coordinator will align this with the opponent and then pass it on to the team in question as soon as possible via the contact person.

The contact person then distributes the communication within the team. Consultation about transport to away matches must be coordinated by the teams themselves.

Costs

The costs for participation in the youth competition are €50 per season as of 09-2024. These costs cover the registration fee and the costs for the training sessions. An invoice for participation will only be sent when the teams are final and entered in Toernooi.nl.

Format of the competition

The competition is divided into 2 phases, one phase in the period up to the Christmas holidays and one phase up to the summer holidays. During a phase, each team plays a ‘contest’ against a fixed number of opponents. In the 2nd phase of the competition, the pools are re-arranged and the teams get different opponents (often grouped based on results so that stronger teams meet each other in the 2nd phase).

Format of a contest

A contest consists of 6 matches, 3 doubles and 3 singles. The number of points that must be achieved is slightly different per category. Below is an overview of the competition format per category:

The points are kept per game on a match form. The home team is responsible for providing a match form, at BC Nuenen these are printed out and kept in the left cupboard (where the nets are kept). It is also useful to register your players on the form in advance of the games in the games they will play. Please also mention the Association numbers here (also of the opponents!). Try to let each member of the team play as much as possible, but realize that in a larger team not all players will be able to play the same amount (this can be compensated in a next game).

After all matchese are played, a (clear) photo of the match form can be sent to the youth coordinator via WhatsApp (via the contact person), he/she will process it on Toernooi.nl. The physical match form can then be left in the left cupboard.
